YARDLINGS UNABLE TO CHECK BROWN ATTACK

STAHLEY'S CHARGES TWICE CROSS ENEMY TEN YARD LINE

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Suffering from a customary Crimson complaint of failure to take advantage of the breaks, the Yardling football team Saturday afternoon bowed to a strong second half Brown eleven in the Soldiers Field Stadium 6-0.

Twice during the first period, Coach Neil Stahley's men broke inside the Bruin ten-yard line, to no avail and then saw Brown shake loose a runner in the last half for the lone tally.

Crimson Pass Nearly Scores

Joe Koufman, Yardling right end, crashed through in the early moments of the game to block and recover an enemy punt on the 20-yard line. After three running plays had failed, Joe Gardella tossed a spot pass to Gene Lovett, who carried to the Bruin four-yard marker. Four plays netted a scanty two yards and Brown took possession of the ball, immediately kicking out of danger.

With new confidence the Crimson offense again started to click. Gardella's flat pass to Don Donahue put the Yardlings within scoring distance, as the fleet Donahue raced to the nine-yard line with the twenty-five yard heave. The Brown line stiffened and after taking the ball seldom allowed the Freshmen past midfield again.

Early in the third period Bill sheehan on a single reverse drove over his own left tackle and into the open, speeding 55 yards unimpeded for a touchdown.
