Facio Tallies in Third Quarter for Freshmen; Goalie Hanford Registers Shutout

Defeat at home, victory away was the story of Harvard soccer Saturday as the Varsity bowed to Amherst here 2-1, while the Freshmen defeated Exeter 1-0.

A fast-forming forward line turned the tide in the Business School game, as the Lord Jeff's overcame Coach Jack Carr's physically weakened fullbacks. A knee injury forced Joe Bradley out in the first period.

While the enemy attacked strongly, Harvard's own offense was hampered by lack of speed. Not until the closing minutes did the Crimson finally capitalize on a shot by Frank Harnden after a pass from Gordon Halstead.

The Freshman game was in a measure a personal triumph for George Hanford, Harvard goalie, who, playing against his former school, repeatedly turned in fine saves to register a shutout.

Clicking at its best in the third period, Crimson teamwork set up inside left Facio for the only tally of the game late in the quarter.
