Kirkland, Lowell Gridsters Hang Up Second Straight Wins in House League

Both Pressed, But Take Advantage Of Breaks to Score Their Points

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Fulfilling pre-season productions that they are the strongest teams in the league, the Kirkland and Lowell House football teams both succeeded in hanging up their second straight victories yesterday afternoon. Both outfits were pressed, however, with Kirkland downing Adams 6-0 and Lowell conquering Dudley by only 2-0.

Fumble Gives Kirkland Break

The Kirkland gridsters, defending champions, elected Wiley Mayno '38 captain before the start of the game, and the newly-elected leader turned in a good defensive game at his fullback position. The lone Kirkland touchdown was rung up when left end John Wood recovered a fumble.

In the final quarter the Adams House offense started to gain ground, but their final threat was stopped when Kirkland's left half back, Alan O'Kelley, intercepted a pass.

Blocked Kick Wins For Lowell

In the Lowell-Dudley clash, the winners kept the ball in Dudley's territory almost all through the game. Lowell should have scored in the first quarter, but a penalty for a substitute's communication proved costly.

Late in the second quarter Dudley was forced to kick from behind its own goal, and Captain Ralph Murphy of Lowell, playing at quarterback, crashed through the center of the line and blocked the kick. Dudley recovered, so only two points were scored.

All through the second half Lowell kept Dudley on the defensive, and the game ended with Lowell in possession of the ball on Dudley's one yard stripe. Center Bergman was outstanding on defense for the losers. The line-ups: KIRKLAND  ADAMS Wood l.e.  l.e. Alkerson Barnard l.t.  l.t. Kingman Arnold l.g.  l.g. Van Evera Keane c.  c.
