VARSITY TIES BRUINS IN SOCCER OPENER, 1-1

FRESHMEN EDGE TABOR ACADEMY 3-1 HERE SATURDAY

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Playing the whole game despite bandaged knees, Harvard's sensational fullback pair of Ted Robie and Joe Bradley saved the Varsity soccer team here Saturday as a Brown eleven, two games ahead in their schedule, rolled up the home team's halfback line, and both teams battled to a 1-1 overtime draw.

Robie and Bradley made no miskiekn, rare feat in any game, and covered half the field in taking the starch out of the Bruin forwards. Not until the closing minutes of the game did the visitors capitalize on Harvard's halfback weakness with a gang attack which alone could succeed in beating the Crimson's final defenses.

Spotty Offense

On the offense Harvard showed typical early season spottiness. Tom Motley and Howie Mendel, left wing pair, teamed up well only in the second quarter. Arthur Page, substitute center, demonstrated the coolest playmaking. Jimmy Rousmaniere, right inside, scored the Crimson goal on a clever piece of goalie fooling in the third period.

Also on the Business School Field Saturday the Freshmen defeated Tabor Academy 3-1 in a pre-football game opener. Eaton scored three for 1941, Burwell once.
