In an attempt to interest the student body in greater participation in winter sport. Wellesley College will stage a Winter Carnival January 22 and 23. Aided by members of the Harvard Glee Club and the skiing team, the undergraduates will present a program including a torch light parade and a "melodrama skis."
The Glee Club members will join with the Wellesley Choir in the torch light procession opening the carnival while members of the skiing team, including Colin Maclaurin '38, Harold VanB. Cleveland '38, and Jose de Varon '38, will participate in Slalom, downhill, and ski joring races as well as presenting the melodrama that will end the sports program.
First Girls' Carnival
Wellesley's experiment will mark the first Winter Sports Carnival held by a girls' college. It will feature competition in which the girls and their guests may compete. One of the highlights will be the judging of the snow sculpture by the Art Department, aid having been sent by Dartmouth.
The Carnival will open on Friday evening, January 22, with a dinner given for Maribel Vinson, Olympic figure skating star who will given an exhibition at 8:30. Skating races in which the men invited from various colleges may participate will be held.
Mixed Ski Events
Saturday afternoon will be occupied by ski races which will include events for men as well as for women and combined events. In the late afternoon tea dances will be held and supper and a dance given by the Athletic Association at Alumnae Hall will mark the end of the carnival.
It is hoped that the Harvard Jayvee hockey team will play an exhibition game although arrangements have yet to be completed.
