SKIERS CURSE JACK FROST AS SWEEP SWINGERS' HOPES RISE

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

If Old Man Winter, who has dealt the skiers such a dirty deal so far, holds out much longer, the crews may be able to take advantage of the warmth and get out on the river as soon as regular rowing starts after Mid-Years.

It will have to be extremely mild, the coaches say, but if the crews are launched it will be the earliest since 1927. That year a crew was put on the water on January 13 for a short while, but a heavy frost set in soon afterwards. Nineteen eleven was the last time that crews were able to work on the river from February until spring. Whether or not Tom Bolles has brought some of his warm Washington weather with him it looks as though that feat might be duplicated. It is significant that in that year's race at New London the Varsity handed Yale a five-lengths defeat.
