GULICK TO RETIRE FROM POST IN GREEK NEXT SEPTEMBER

A Great Scholar and Contributor to Classical Knowledge as Well as an Excellent Teacher

Charles Burton Gulick '90, Eliot Professor of Greek Literature, for over 40 years a member of the Harvard Greek and Latin Department, will retire and become professor-emeritus, effective next September 1.

One of the outstanding Classics scholars in America, Professor Gulick not only was known to generations of students as an exceptionally able teacher, but at the same time made important contributions to modern knowledge of the ancient Greeks.

Taught Since 1895

Professor Gulick graduated from Harvard in 1890, received his A.M. a year later, and his Ph.D. in 1894. He was an instructor in Greek here in 1892 and then went abroad to study for two years. He has taught continuously since 1895, and has been a professor since 1909. He obtained the Eliot Chair of Greek Literature in 1925. He is 68 years old.
