Varsity, Jayvees Lose to Big Red; Beat Syracuse--James Anderson Takes Carroll Cup on Charles

Harvard's Varsity crew finished its unbroken sprint record this spring with another loss Saturday, to Cornell on Lake Cayuga. Both the Varsity and Jayvees lost over the two miles, the Big Red taking the first shell by three lengths in 10:38.3. Syracuse trailed the Harvard first and second boats by two and five lengths respectively.

Carroll Cup Races

At Cambridge the spring singles season also ended with the Carroll Cup races held on the mile stretch below the Weeks Bridge. Winner Saturday was James J. Anderson 2G.B., who defeated last year's victor George C. Scott G.E.S. by eight lengths.

Winners of the other races were: Junior Singles, Samuel H. Rindge 1L; Novice Singles, Robert S. Chafee '36; 155-1b. Singles, Ivan M. Korbel '39; Narrow Compromise, Andrew Heiskell 1G.B.; Broad Compromise, Charles K.C. Lawrence '38; and Wherry, Robert H. Morse '39.
