UNIVERSITY ASKS '37 STUDENT BODY TO TERCENTENARY

Floodlighting of Buildings, Torchlight Parade, Fireworks Offer Spectacular Evening

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Envelopes containing an official invitation to participate in the Tercentenary Celebration next September, a "Programme of the Tercentenary Days" issued by Thomas H. Quinn '36 and John B. Bowditch '37, Co-chairmen of the Undergraduate Committee, and a return postcard, have been sent to all Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen.

All undergraduates will be permitted to live in their rooms in the Houses during the celebration as they will be open for occupancy on Monday, September 14. Incoming Freshmen will be invited to join the celebration as soon as the list is completed.

Invitations have also been sent to the undergraduate bodies of 43 American colleges and to Oxford, Cambridge, Bologna, Tokyo, Peiping, Heidelberg, the Sorbonne, and Melbourne. Student delegates will represent these institutions at a reception on Wednesday afternoon, September 16, a function which will formally open the Undergraduate Celebration.

Most spectacular feature of the Celebration is planned for that evening. From 9 until 9.30 o'clock, buildings on both sides of the River will be floodlighted, accompanied by a display of fireworks. This will be followed by a torchlight parade of students from the River to Memorial Hall for the Tercentenary Dance. The torchlight march will duplicate one of the most popular features of the 250th anniversary celebration in 1886.

The Formal Celebration in the Tercentenary open air theatre will begin at 2.30 o'clock Friday morning. The end of the celebration will come that evening with an undergraduate dinner given in honor of the delegates at the Harvard Club of Boston.
