With the stated meeting in University Hall at 9:30 o'clock, followed by a tour of inspection of the archives of Widener Library, the Board of Overseers to the University yesterday opened their annual two-day visit here.
During the afternoon session of the two-day program, the Overseers visited the houses, lunching at Dunster House, meeting at Eliot House later and having tea at Lowell House at 4 o'clock.
Last night the group, together with the members of the Corporation, were guests of President Conant for dinner at 17 Quincy street.
Samuel Eliot Morison, professor of history and official historian of the Tercentenary, addressed the Overseers after the luncheon in Dunster House on "Dunster's place in Harvard History".
At the meeting which followed in Eliot House, John H. Finley, instructor in Greek and Latin; Saunders MacLane, Benjamin Peirce Instructor in Mathematics; and George S. Franklin, Jr., '36, were speakers. Certain aspects of the tutorial work and the plan of joint conferences as employed in Eliot House were discussed.
This morning the Board will meet again in University Hall and reports of Visiting Committees will be read. The members will discuss the relation of secondary schools to the College and the University. The meeting will be followed by luncheon at the Faculty Club.
