Nye, Thomas to Address Union

Two political figures of national prominence will air their views on the perennial problems of world peace and national security when Senator Gerald P. Nye of North Dakota speaks with Norman Thomas, prominent Socialist leader, in a joint program on Thursday evening.

The meeting, held under the auspices of the Harvard Student Union, will take place at 8 o'clock in the New Lecture Hall. Arthur N. Holcombe '06, professor of Government, will preside.

Since the proceedings will assume the form of a symposium or forum, the speakers, instead of debating, will engage in an informal discussion of current national and international problems.

This meeting marks the debut of the Harvard Student Union as an active organization and is expected to prepare the way for the peace strike to be held April 22. Arrangements for the meeting tomorrow were made by the Peace Council of the Union, successor in spirit to the Peace Society.

Norman Thomas, erstwhile Socialist candidate for the presidency, has obtained widespread recognition as director of the League of Industrial Democracy and as the author of numerous socialistic works.
