Robinson to Succeed Magoun as Modern Language Chairman

Fred Norris Robinson '91, professor of English, will succeed Francis P. Margoun '16, associate professor of Comparative Literature, as chairman of the Division of Modern Languages, it was learned yesterday.

The Modern Language field includes English, Germanic Languages and Literatures, Romance Languages and Literatures, and Comparative Literature. Professor Robinson has been acting head of the division for the last half year. Professor Magoun is in Germany at present on a leave of absence.

After graduation, Robinson continued his studies in philology here, receiving the Ph.D. in 1894, and later took work at the University of Freiburg in Germany. He is a world authority on Celtic languages and Chaucer, and acted as editor of the Cambridge Chaucer."
