SCHOLARSHIPS NAMED FOR GEORGE CHASE CHRISTIAN '95

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

$50,000 more has been added to the 300th Anniversary Fund by Mrs. George Chase Christian of Minneapolis, Minnesota, according to an announcement by President Conant yesterday.

Graduate students will benefit from the fund, for the first time by the new gift, which establishes national scholarships primarily for award to men in the graduate schools. The stipend for each of these scholarships will be adjusted to the financial resources of the recipient, with a maximum of about $1000 a year.

Mrs. Christian is the widow of George Chase Christian '95, who died in 1919 and for whom the scholarships will be named. Mr. Christian was a prominent Minneapolis manufacturer, had been president of the Harvard Club of Minnesota, and was always actively interested in Harvard affairs.

"I wish to express the hope that the future holders of these scholarships will return to Minnesota," Mrs. Christian said in establishing the awards.
