H. M. JONES ADDED TO ENGLISH FACULTY

Author of Poetry, Plays, and Numerous Miscellaneous Studies -- May Give Course in Novel

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Howard Mumford Jones, most prominent member of the English department at the University of Michigan, has been appointed professor of English beginning next September.

Unconfirmed rumors have been circulating for several weeks that Jones, dissatisfied with his former work at Michigan, was willing to make a change, but University Hall would make no statement until last night when his appointment was announced.

One of the most versatile American scholars, Jones has written poetry, plays, a bibliography of Byron's works, a biography of Moses Colt Tyler, and a study of American and French culture (1750-1848). At present he holds a Guggenheim Fellowship for research work on a biography of Tom Moore. It is expected that he will conduct a course on the novel at Harvard.
