CAPTAIN MAGUIRE AND 16 PLAYMATES SPARED

Coach Fred Mitchell swung the axe again yesterday, but 17 Varsity baseball players surviving the latest cut are sure of a train ride when the team makes its annual junket through the South next week.

Pitchers Ready

Fighting principally against wildness, Dick Walsh and Ed Ingalls have been bearing down consistently in practice of late. Though either will be ready to take up at Fordham next Wednesday, Ingots will probably get the call with Walsh held over for the League opener at Penn Friday.

Two other question marks, first base and the keystone combination, rest more or less firmly at this point in the hands of John Sullivan, converted third baseman, and Frank Owen, at second, and Tom Bilodeau, at short. All three have been in the number one infield since practice opened.

With John Adzigian, star of two years' brightness, at third, only the outfield remains unsettled. Here Braman Gibbs will probably take his regular berth in center, flanked by Ben Probity and Jim Sullivan, also lettermen.
