Gerry Steals Scoring Honors as Riders Lose by Foul

Forcing Army, defending champions in the National Intercollegiate Indoor Polo Tourney, to the limit before bowing 9 1/2-9, the Crimson riders lost their last tilt of the indoor season in New York Saturday night.

Captain Eddie Gerry stole the scoring honors of the night by pushing in six markers with his mallet, while Skiddy von Stade tallied the other five Crimson points. Townsend Winmill had his hands full keeping the Army sharp-shooters from running up the score and so did not have a chance to enter the scoring ranks himself.

Saturday night's defeat may be attributed to too many fouls. Both teams scored 11 times, but the Crimson riders made one more foul than did the soldier trio and this proved to be the deciding half point. In a match played earlier in the season, the Palmermen lost on the West Point tanbark 15-12, due to the fact that they played on borrowed mounts and to the unaccustomed size of the arena.
