Educators throughout the world are awaiting the talk of President Conant at Standers Theatre this Friday on the subject "Harvard Present and Future"; this will be the major speech of his presidency thus far, and he may will outline the paths Harvard is to follow in the next quarter century.
Eliot Birthday Anniversary
This address will be part of the second Tercentenary Meeting of this year, marking the anniversary of President Eliot's birthday. It will be held in Sanders Theatre, starting at 8 o'clock, and is open only to members of the University and guests by special invitation.
The meeting is a sequel to the one held last November when Samuel E. Morison '08, historian of the Tercentenary, spoke on "Harvard Past." The day chosen for this meeting, November 8, marked the 299th milestone of the founding of Harvard University and the 328th anniversary of the birth of John Harvard.
Jerome D. Green '96, director of the Tercentenary and secretary to the Corporation, has been in charge of all arrangements for this week's program. Original plans called for an actual broadcast of the meeting, but it was found that the hour from 8 to 9 o'clock on Friday evening was the most expensive of the week.
Rush to Boston
As a result of this, Mr. Conant, accompanied by Mr. Green, will rush to the Boston broadcasting rooms of station WBZ immediately after the meeting in Cambridge, and Mr. Conant will be forced to repeat his address at 10 o'clock for the benefit of the radio audience. It will be relayed over WJZ, New York, and a nation-wide network.
