In a close contest, the result of which hinged on the outcome of the opee matches which were won by Columbia 6-3, the Lion fencers edged the Harvard team 14-13 last Saturday afternoon.
Harvard won both the foils and sabre competitions by 5-4 margins. Captain Philip E. Lilienthal '36, Richard Morgan, 4th '36, and William F. Gerber '37 turned in outstanding performances for Harvard, while Bertsche, Jacobs Petter, and Weidel showed up well for Columbia.
In a preliminary to the Varsity meet, the Crimson Freshmen edged Andover 7-6. Losing in the foils competition 5-4, the Harvard team won the meet by a 3-1 victory in the epee matches.
