Crimson skiers, in one of the busiest weekends of the season, will enter four championship events scattered all over New England.
Tomorrow Peter Brooks, Captain Carter, Dave Emerson, Cedric Francis, Tom Motley, and Bob Shaw will jump at Lancaster for the Massachusetts State Championship. This jump is rated at 30 meters (97 feet) which is a respectable distance.
Competition will be keen with many Norwegians entered, but Francis who is probably the best jumper in the college, judging from last year's record, can be counted on to do well, although this is his first competition of the season.
Jumping at Brattleboro
Three meets are scheduled for Sunday. Francis and Brooks plan to go to Brattleboro, Vermont, to enter the Eastern Jumping Championship, the biggest jumping event of the East. This jump is far and away the biggest jump in the East, 60 meters (194 feet), and the competition here will be the keenest of any jumping event this year.
Meanwhile racing over the Thunderbolt trail near Williamstown, a second class team will be competing for honors in the Massachusetts Second Class Championship against Dartmouth, the famed Hochgebirge skiers, and the Schussverein.
Carter, Dunbar Carpenter, Emerson, Charlie Rogers, and Shaw who all have B ratings, under the new classification system, are entered.
Racing at Laconia
Also on Sunday, at Laconia, New Hampshire, the Crimson will try for its fourth championship in the Third Class races over the Corkscrew trail. Fred Bigelow, Sidney Cobb, Ivan Korbel, Tom Motley, Edward Osgood, Dick Preston, Ellis Sard, Strafford Wentworth, and Lee Whitney are among those entered.
