8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Riddled by probationary casualties, the Freshman Track Team will leave today to meet Andover's crack contingent. The Freshman will be in the role of underdog tomorrow with more good runners on pro than there are running.
There are, however, a number of good men who will be called on to carry the brunt of the Andover onslaught. First is Bob Gammons in the dash who has bested the endeavors of two Varsity runners in the Handicap Meet when all men were running from scratch. He will be ably seconded by Fred Ulen, the son of the swimming coach.
Sure shot in 600
In the 600-yard run there is lanky Al Hanlom whom Jaakko Mikkola has characterized as a brilliant runner. He should be good for a first place without even straining himself. The 300-yard dash is outstanding only for the calibre of the men in it on pro. The blue runners should blaze through here unless Mikkola is forced to call on Hanlon.
The 1000-yard run is missing its best bet in George Gardner, captain of the cross country team, who has just recently come out for winter track, and can't be in decent shape before the Exeter Meet. For this reason Roswell Brayton and Fred Hinman, both veterans of the cross-country season, will attempt to show their stuff to the detriment of the Andovers, and may do well.
The Freshmen are weak in the field events except for the broad jump.
Adding up the possible points, a fairly optimistic forecast gives the Freshmen 40 points, one short of the requisite for a win.
