200 YARDLINGS ENTER TOURNAMENTS AT UNION

Championships in Ping Pong, Bridge, Chess. Billiards Will Be Sponsored by Union Committee

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Over 100 Freshmen have entered the four championship tournaments in ping pong, billiards, bridge and chess. These contests, the first of their kind in recent Freshman history, are being sponsored by the Union Committee.

Trophies will be awarded the winner in each competition, and a Freshman chess team will also be formed from the best men in the tournament to face intercollegiate rivals.

Ping Pong Most Popular

Ping pong, with 119 entries, is the most popular of the four activities, with bridge, chess and billiards following in that order. The contests will be run on the elimination basis, with the draw cards for the first round matches scheduled to be posted late today. It is expected that the tournaments will be concluded early in March.

This is the first time that these events have ever been organized and sponsored by the Union Committee, and is a part of the general policy of the Committee to give members of the Class of '39 every opportunity to become acquainted with the facilities at the Union.
