Unusual Chamber Music Concert To Be Held At Jordan Hall On Tuesday Evening

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Tonight is American night at the "Pops" and Arthur Fiedler, the conductor, has announced a program which outdoes itself in patriotism. Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever," Victor Herbert and Stephen Foster melodies, and various other numbers commonly grouped under the rather damning and microphone phrase "American Favorites" are all to be played; but the real point of interest of the whole evening centers on George Gershwin. Mr. Gershwin, in keeping with his fame, is to be the soloist in his "Rhapsody in Blue" as well as in his "Concerto for Pianoforte in F". What is more, he will conduct a suite of selections from "Porgy and Bess" which has been such an unqualified success both here and in New York. The concert, incidentally, is for the benefit of the Christopher Shop.

In case you cannot go to the "Pops" tonight, there are other opportunities on every ensuing night with music which is almost guaranteed to soothe the fevered mind. For example, there is "Pomp and Circumstance" on Friday evening, or if you are in a slightly less martial mood, the Peer Gynt Suite. For the die-hards, there is the "Bolero" on Saturday, and for those who are seriously inclined, Heinrich Gebhard is to play Liszt's "Second Piano Concerto" on Sunday evening.

Last but not least, there is Harvard Night next Tuesday with several choruses by the Glee Club as well as selections from "The Lid's Off" with Leroy Anderson conducting. The program is to open, significantly enough, with the "Procession of Bacchus" by Delibes.
