Great speculation has been going on during the last few days as to the object of the dashes of white paint which have appeared along the curbing in the Yard.
Possible explanations which have been suggested say that they are to prevent trucks from parking there and rubbing off the while paint, that they are to act as a guiding light for Freshmen wending their way homeward after 8 o'clock, and that it is part of a carefully thought out plan having something to do with the slogan "Make it a White Christmas."
It appears, however, that it is to distinguish the parts of paths which consist in alterations of elevation from those which do not, thus averting the possible crisis of one's decreasing his elevation in undue proportion to the rise therein of the path.
