Unanimous Election Makes Four Linesmen in Row to Pilot First Eleven

Charles Russell Allen '38, of Greenfield, was unanimously elected captain of the 1937 football team yesterday in Dillon Field House, succeeding James J. Gaffney '37, captain of the 1936 squad.

Allen, who prepared at Exeter, was a guard on Dick Harlow's team this year. He was also a starting guard on his Freshman eleven, captain and defence on his Freshman hockey team, and first baseman and leading batter on the Freshman baseball nine. Last season has was a regular on the Varsity hockey team and won a major H.

Besides his athletic activities, Allen was president of the Class of 1938 his Freshman year, a member of the Union Committee, and is a member of the Student Council at present, having been elected last May.

He is the second successive guard to captain the Crimson and the fourth lineman in a row. John H. Dean '34 was the last backfield man to pilot a Harvard team.

In yesterday's election, held in Dillon Field House, all lettermen took part in the voting. Of those, eight cast their ballots for the last time. They are Captain Gaffney, Bob Jones, Charley Kessler, and Mike Adlis, who were Yale game starters, and George Ford, Mal McTernen, George Hedblom, and Bill Watt, who also took a large part in the Eli fray.
