8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
With the end of the depression, or for some other equally good reason, men are dressing up more this fall and winter than many a year past: not just the always popular dinner jacket, but more to tails for the real formal occasions.
Naturally the single breasted dinner suits with Skinner Satin lapels will be in the best of taste. But, we belive that the most popular dinner coat this winter is the Double Breasted suit with dull grosgrain facing.
The natural shoulders and draped waistline makes for greater formality and well groomed air.
For the absolutely correct formal wear, the full dress with a higher waist cut is the correct thing. Tails should drop to a point exactly opposite the knee in the back. Most lapels are of dull grosgrain silk.
Midnight Blue is becoming exceedingly popular in both Tails and Tux.
The waistcoat for the season is the single breasted model with square cut collar. White corded effects are the only proper vests to wear with Tails. Brocades and other fancy materials being definitely wrong.
Formal shoes include patent leather pumps and the straight plain toe patent-leather shoe.
The opera hat this year is a new low crown that looks well on every man. Gone are the grotesque over height of the old operas.
Black Homburgs and Derbies both have their following.
