Freshmen showed surprising strength in the first day of the Freshmen-Varsity track meet, but failed to equal the score of the Varsity as many of them confidently expected. Half of the first places in the running events went to the Freshmen, however, with little power being displayed in the running events.

The point score to date is 45 3-4 for the Varsity against 35 3-4 for the Freshmen, with the Varsity expected to pile up a more commanding lead in the events today.

Bill Schmidt was nosed out in the finals of the high hurdles by Mason Fernald "40. The Freshman relay team also came home a winner partly because of poor baton passing on the part of the Varsity.

Lightbody also won the 300-yard race run in heats with the winners being decided on times. Behind him were Bill O'Connor, Tudor Richards, and All Hanlon, all Varsity runners.

Other winners were Bill Schmidt in the dash, Henry Marcy in the mile run, Steve Brennan in the hammer throw, Bob Haydock in the high jump, and Win Pettingell in the broad jump.
