With almost the entire class attending, President Conant welcomed the Freshman Class last night at dinner in the Union. He ate with the Freshmen in the large dining hall; after supper all the tables were cleared away and the chairs ranged in rows.
President Conant began his address at 7:40 o'clock and spoke almost half an hour. His speech was not a prepared one but strictly informal, and for reasons not revealed, was carefully guarded from the press.
Dean Leighton '19, Dean of Freshmen, introduced President Conant and was the only other person on the platform.
Although Mr. Conant is undoubtedly familiar to many of the Freshmen, due to the fact that a large percentage of the Class attended the Tercentenary exercises, this was the first opportunity they have had to see him since College opened.
