Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
There's one thing about card stunts. They, at least, are easy to stop. But a different problem arises with a band. Some pretty important people did their best to turn off Harvard's band just before the start of the third period in the Navy game Saturday, but to no avail.
As the teams reappeared on the field for the second half, the musicians grouped in the well-known "U" in front of the visitors stands, and started to apply the heat to a syncopated version of Annapolis and Crimson songs. Then second assistant football manager Bolton ran out an tapped Band Leader Irwin meaningly on the arm. Irwin nodded and kept on playing. Next assistant manager Bob Whitman tried his luck. Still the music poured forth. Referee Trimble whispered to Irwin, who nodded. The music continued.
Captains Gaffney and Morrell then mentioned to Irwin that they would like to start playing again if he didn't want the field any more. "Yes", said the baton waver. As the referee approached for the fifth round the music ended in a triumphant and defiant thunder of drums, and the Band with proud smiles, retired in orderly retreat.
