Boasting the unprecedented total of 113 entrants, the Freshman tennis tournament outnumbered both Varsity classics as hopeful racquetmen took the courts for first round matches yesterday. The University A singles drew 106 as pirants, while the B lagged with only 47.
James J. Fuld 37, captain-elect of the Varsity netmen, is first seeded in the A tourney. The other three seeded players, all sophomore lettermen of last years' team, are, in order, Alvash W. Sulleway. Hubert H. Hauck, and George F. Low man.
Although there are no official ratings among the Yardlings, five of them enter with records with entitle them to special mention. These include David S. Burt and Chester A. Legg, both of Exeter Academy, John G. Palfrey Jr. of Milton Academy, Lengdon Gilkey, of Asheville School, and Walter Muther, of Rivers School.
There will be just one doublee tournament for which the draw will be made on Wednesday. In the singles competitions all first-round matches must be played today.
