James Roosevelt again attacked Governor Alfred M. Landon's school policy in Kansas, Senator James Byrnes attacked the Governor's agriculture program as incompatible with his promise to reduce expenditures, and Professor Holcombe praised President Roosevelt's "political and moral courage," at the Democratic rally held last night before an audience of 300 students in the New Lecture Hall.
The President's son chided the Governor for the latter's defense of Kansas schools, and said the Republicans "did not offer a single constructive proposal.'
Senator Byrnes defended the increase in the national debt and declared that every promise in the 1932 Democratic platform had been kept except the promise to balance the budget and reduce expenditures. He also attacked the G.O.P. relief plan.
Professor Holcombe stated that the only issue in this campaign is "the character of the candidates." He cited Roosevelt's failure to indorse James M. Curley for election to the Senate as an example of the former's political courage.
