Shortage of 1940 Football Managers Alarms Officials

Only 8 Yardlings Report Compared With 45 Three Years Ago

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

When the dust had settled down the second day after the opening of the Freshman football managerial competition it was discovered, to the consternation of all concerned that only 8 Yardlings had reported. This represents the lowest turnout within the memory of the oldest inhabitant of Soldiers Field, and, in the opinion of attaches of Dillon Field House, constitutes a serious indictment of the spirit of 1940 men.

Last year over 18 men reported the first day and three years ago the turnout exceeded 45. The competition has not been changed in any particular from previous years, and football men are at a loss to account for the shortage of Freshmen.
