KALTENBORN SELECTED AS PRESIDENT OF H. S. U.

Rolf Kaltenborn '37, A. Jerome Himelhoch '38, and Louis L. Sutro '38, received election as president, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer of the Student Union at its organization meeting in Phillips Brooks House last night.

Approximately 75 out of a paid membership of 102 attended. To their executive council they named in addition to the three officers, Robert S. Brainerd '38, Laurence S. Levy '39, Harold L. Stubbs '39, and James L. Tobin '39, Morris Earle '38 and J. Sinclair Armstrong '38 were appointed to the board as representatives of the Student Council and CRIMSON. Kaltenborn will serve for Phillips Brooks House.

Other leading business included the announcement of a new Campus Questions Committee to deal with student problems around the Yard and of dates of preliminary meetings for all four committees, Peace, Civil Liberties, Campus, and Labor, at which permanent chairmen will be elected, and membership and programs established.

Procedure last night consisted, briefly, of a welcome by Kaltenborn in which he promised that the Union would not be inconspicuous this year, and reports on Peace Committee activities by Brainered, temporary chairman, Civil Liberties, by Stubbs, Labor, by Himelhoch, Campus Questions, by Levy, organizational work already performed, by Sutro, election of officers, an address on a planned peace institute by Welch Peel '39, and adjournment.

Speaking for Dudley Hall, Josoph I. Siegel '38 also announced that the Commuters would form a body to support the projected work of the Campus Committee.

First meetings are scheduled as follows: the Labor body will meet Monday at 7:30 in Adams H-31, the Campus Questions group in Claverly 50 Tuesday at 4:00, Civil Liberties Wednesday in Leverett G-41 at 8:00, and Peace Committee Friday in Leverett B-31 also at 8:00 o'clock.
