SIGNERS FLOCK TO PROTEST PARIETAL RULING IN HOUSES

Upperclassmen May Force Revisions by House Masters if Present Speed of Signing Continues

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Agitation over the new House parietal regulation regarding entertainment of women guests began to gather in a head yesterday as petitions went up in al seven upperclass dormitories requesting a return to the former ordinance.

280 Signers

A late bulletin last night showed more than 280 student signers. Adams led with 100; Eliot, where the protest first flashed Wednesday, showed 75; while the other five filled up the quota in lessening amounts.

As it originally appeared on the Jumbo bulletin board, the petition reads:

"The undersigned express orderly disapproval of the new House rules concerning the entertainment of women guests, agreeing with the CRIMSON policy. We request a reconsideration of the question and a return to the former regulations which have functioned satisfactorily in the past."

The Former Regulations

"The former regulations" provided that women could enter dormitories between the hours of 1 and 7 o'clock provided that their student host had previously registered their names and obtained a permit at the House office.

Now if an upperclassman wishes to entertain one lady friend he must arrange to have another in his apartments at the same time. There is no stipulation that no roommates may also attend.

Petitions Stay Up

Meanwhile action will continue with the petitions slated to stay up until signatories are mustered in sufficient numbers to force the House Masters' hands or until agitation dies down.
