I must back to the Square again,

To the falling leaves and the Yard,

And all I ask is a small raise in my allowance (how about it?)

And some courses that aren't too hard.

And a tutor kind and a biddie blind

In a Harvard House baronial,

And some good plays and a musical show

In town at the Colonial.

I must back to the Square again,

For the call of the taxi horn

Is a wild call and a clear call

That may not be forgone;

And all I ask is a chill night

With the white lights calling,

And a closed car (with a radio)

And Brookline without stalling.

I must back to the Square again

To the vagrant lit'ry life,

To the Wolfe's way and the Widow's way

Though the bill's like a whetted knife;

And all I ask is a last roll in the mellow Cambridge clover,

And an A. B., and a soft job, when the long trek's over.
