Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
With Yale and Harvard trackmen matching their paces against a common opponent, Captain Jack Schen led his team through the portals of Palmer Stadium in London this summer for the season's last meet, the annual contest with the forces of Oxford and Cambridge. Milt Green captured honors in the meet with his two first places, while Bob Hall added another first to the Harvard total, but the meet ended in a tie, with six firsts for the English teams and six firsts for the invading Americans.
The meet, which was held on July 20, was marred by a misunderstanding as to the method of scoring and first reports gave the Yale-Harvard forces the victory on the strength of their second and third places, but official decision on the night of the meet divided the honors between the English and Americans, only first places being counted.
Oxford and Cambridge scored heavily in the track events while the visitors depended upon their field event men to tie up the score. A heavy rain shortly before the meet ruined all prospects of any record-breaking performances.
The Harvard-Yale combine had its chance for victory when Green won the 120-yard hurdles, but the Harvard captain-elect was disqualified for having knocked over four hurdles. Track rules in the United States have no such clause, but the English rule is that a competitor shall be disqualified if he knocks over more than two hurdles. Pilbrow of Oxford was awarded first.
Green came back for a first in the broad jump with a leap of 23 feet, 11 inches, and later avenged his hurdles defeat when he led Philbrow to the tape in the last event of the meet, the 220-yard hurdles. Quoting the "Daily Mail" for what it is worth. "It was a thousand pities that a bad start prevented Pilbrow from winning the last event--the low hurdles--and so giving victory to Oxford and Cambridge. Green, however, got a 'filer.' Although Pilbrow sprinted wonderfully well, he could not get on terms."
Bob Hall topped Radman of Yale by two inches for a first in the high jump, but failed by four inches to equal his records of the spring track season. He cleared the bar at 5 feet, 10 inches but missed at 6 feet.
Stothard of Cambridge won a very slow mile from Jack Scheu in 4:26.4, the Crimson captain making a desperate bid on the last lap but failing to overtake the fleet Briton. Koith Brown, lanky aerial artist from New Haven, set a new meet record in the pole vault when he cleared the high stands at 14 feet.
