INTERCOLLEGIATE SWIMMING LEAGUE FORMED FOR EAST

To foster swimming and diving and expressly omitting water polo, a new Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League has been formed, composed of seven eastern colleges including Harvard, and headed by William J. Bingham '16, Director of Athletics. The appointment of Bingham as president and of H. Jamison Swarts, Assistant Director of Athletics at Pennsylvania, as secretary, was announced last night.

Besides Harvard are enrolled Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Columbia, Penn, and Navy. Meets will begin during the season of 1936-37.

The new organization is distinct from the existing Intercollegiate Swimming Association, of which Harvard, Princeton, and Dartmouth are not members because of the inclusion of water polo. Whether the two leagues will continue to exist together, or whether the new body will replace the old, has not been determined as yet.

Membership in the new circuit is similar to that of the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League, except that the Cornell nine takes the place of the Navy swimmers, who are not members of the latter organization.
