Due to the rain and wind yesterday the race between the Varsity crews to see which was the number one boat was called off and the same anomalous position of having two equal Varsity eights continues.
The Drury boat had only one shift made in the seatings when Coach Charlie Whiteside decided that Larry Mills, who pulled the bow oar in Monday's workout, would return to the third boat and that Ray Clark would come from Cutler's boat to take his place. In the Cutler shell he moved Haskins from bow to three to fill up the hole left by Clark and took up Rantoul from the Scott eight to fill the Haskins vacancy at bow. The thirds he left unchanged except for the return of Mills to the number one sweep.
All the boats were taken down to the basin and Cutler's shell was sent over the mile and three quarters but Coach Whiteside was unwilling to reveal the time they made. It was intended to take the other two boats over the same course but the roughness of the water necessitated the abandenment of this and the shells returned to the Newell with Cutler's eight going in for showers and the other two rowing up to the Armory. This meant a ten mile workout for the latter two shells while Cutler's boat made up for their seven miles by the time row.
The seatings complete were as follows Drury shell, stroke, Francis; 7, Watson; 6, Saltonstall; 5, Atherton; 4, Gardner; 3, Eliel; 2, Drury; bow, Clark; cox, Hunter. Cutler shell: stroke, Cutler; 7, Bray; 6, Keyes; 5, Choate; 4, Roosevelt; 3, Haskins; 2, Cutler; bow, Rantoul; cox, Bennett. Third Varsity, stroke, Scott; 7, Prout; 6, Simmons; 5, Dennison; 4, Austin; 3, Lloyd; 2, Reece; bow, Mills; cox, Cohen
