VARSITY CREWS SPLIT UP WITH DRURY AT TWO

In an effort to sift out his best eight men Coach Charlie Whiteside threw a bombshell into the midst of the 24 sweepswingers who gathered yesterday in the Nowell for the Monday row after the second consecutive defeat of the season by completely splitting up his Varsity crews.

Captain Sam Drury, until yesterday considered a permanent fixture as first pace-sector, has been stroking the third crew. Bobble Cutler still times the other boat but with the new set-up still an experiment Coach Whiteside refuses to designate which of the boasts he consider the first and which the second.

Oliver Scott was put in to stroke the other set of eight oarsmen which presumably is third in rank as well as numerically.

Francis has behind him Watson at 7, Saltonstall at 6, Atherton at 5, Gardner at 4, Eliel at 3, Drury at 2, and Mills at bow with Tommy Hunter holding the tiller ropes.

Cutler's eight is made up of Bray at 7, Keyes at 6, Choate at 5, Roosevelt at 4, Clark at 3, Roger Cutler at 2, and Haskins at bow. Bennett still holds the knockers for this boat which in spite of Coach Whiteside's reticence about relative Varsity standing looks more like a second than a first boat if for no other reason than that Captain Sam Drury is not in it. All seatings are announced as very insecure with another shake-up promising to result from the race today if not before.
