VARSITY NINE STRONG FAVORITE OVER CORNELL

LINCOLN, UNDEFEATED IN THREE STARTS, ON MOUND

With Bill Lincoln, undefeated in three successive starts, on the mound, the Varsity nine is a strong favorite in the game against Cornell at Ithaca this afternoon. This is the first of a home and home League series, the second game to be played in Cambridge on Friday, May 24.

Lincoln, former Milton Academy star, has been doing some fine pitching this year, and is mainly responsible for Harvard's second place position in the League. A win this afternoon against the Ithacans, coupled with the defeat of the League-leading Indian nine at the hands of Yale, would put the Crimson in first place.

The game today will be the first League game played since April 27 when the Mitchellmen defeated Princeton 6 to 4 in a game formally protested by the Tigers because of a ground rule decision. The only other opposition which the team has met since that time was the Junior Varsity, which it defeated Thursday, 15 to 6, mainly because of the hard hitting and clever base running of Frank Owen, who got five hits and stole four bases.

Owen, Tommy Bilodeau, and Braman Gibbs an imposing trio of batters, may well disconcert Phillip Press, who will be toeing the slab for Cornell.
