MICHIGAN PLANS INVASION OF POOL WEEK FROM TODAY

Michigan, Conference Champion, Yale's Only Serious Rival--Six Men Depart For Eastern Meet at C.C.N.Y. Today

Michigan's swimming team, fresh from capturing the Big Ten title for the fifth consecutive year, will compete in the Indoor Pool a week from today when the National Collegiate Swimming Championships get underway.

The Championships were last held in Cambridge when the Pool was opened in 1930. Northwestern celebrated the occasion by capturing the title and George Kojac and Ray Ruddy, two names still notable in the swimming world, handed in outstanding performances.

Harvard, interested in the records of her six men at the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships today and tomorrow at C. C. N. Y. in New York, has not completed the list of her entrants. Captain Roy Wallace and Vic Leventritt, who are competing this weekend, will undoubtedly take part. The other men in New York are Dick Fisher, Bernard Merriam, Gregory Jameson, and John Colony.

Northwestern Accepts

Besides Michigan, acceptances have been received from Northwestern, Illinois, West Point, and the Navy. While there were 20 colleges with 104 entrants five years ago, a number which it will be hard to equal, a great many more entries for the most important swimming event of the year are expected in the next few days.

Michigan, which is Yale's only rival for supremacy, will send 14 men, including Jack Kasley, 200-yard Conference breast stroke champion, Taylor Drysdale, Conference 150-yard back stroke champion, and Tex Robertson, Conference 400-yard swim and 220-yard free style champion.

Captain Don Horne, 200-yard breast stroke champion, who did the distance in 2 min., 29 sec. this year, will lead Northwestern. Among the other stars will be Bernard Hahn, Don Hervig, and Bill Rollinger.

Flachmann Expected

The other mid-western college, Illinois, will enter Charlie Flachmann, Conference 50-yard and 100-yard champion, who set a new record of 23.4 sec. in a trial heat in the former event at Illinois last week and also lowered the Conference 100-yard swim record to 52.9 sec. Illinois will also enter W. C. Overman, J. D. Hickey, and Harry Hansen.
