To allow greater flexibility in the English Department's program, the arrangement of courses will be completely different in next year's catalogue, it was learned today.
Under the new system, most courses will be only for undergraduates or graduates, the number for both being cut down. The undergraduate group will come under two headings, "English Composition and Public Speaking," and "The History of English and American Literature." The first group will be lettered from A to H, commencing with English A-1 to be known as English A.
Courses dealing with the second heading will be numbered from one to 89, with the following subdivisions: 1--10 survey courses, 10--19 Middle English, 20--29 Elizabethan Literature, etc., American Literature 70--79, and criticism 80--89. It is hoped that this will facilitate the addition or omission of old and new courses.
