Bing Crosby and Francis Lederer Try to Give Almost Everyone an Enjoyable Three Hours

By A. A. B. jr.

Bing Crosby and Francis Lederer are quite anxious to give everybody a good time in their films at the University this week. The audience cooperates except for those nondescript individuals who apply the examination spirit to life, both in and out of season.

Crosby happens to neglect the proper aristocratic spirit as he sings his way into the heart of a Russian Princess at Monte Carlo. Happily, the Princess finds it possible to descend to plebian emotions with comfortable restraint and grace. Possibly this is because she is Kitty Carlisle.

Alison Skipworth and Roland Young supply the comic background for Crosby's impersonation of a waiter. The name of the picture incidentally is "Here Is My Heart" but it might be called any thing except "Romance in Manhattan" for that is the title of Francis Lederer's picture.

Lederer is not a crooner fulfilling his whims, but an illegal immigrant in New York City; Ginger Rogers is not a Princess of Russia but only a Mistress of a Good Heart, which she uses frequently. Their romance rises and declines in a New York tenement until it becomes so complicated that the Police Department has to be whipped into effective action. While the drab parts drag, the humorous situations provoke smiles if not a chuckle or two.
