Socialist Candidate Gives Talk Before Informal Debating Society

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Alfred Baker Lewis, active member of the Socialistic party of Massachusetts and gubernatorial candidate in several past elections, will be the guest speaker of the Union Society's meeting this evening at 7:15 o'clock in the Lower Common Room of the Union.

The Society, formed early in the year, has been conducting informal Freshman debates, and is directed by a board chosen from the Union Committee. It is aiming toward several outside debates in the future, especially the annual HYP competition which usually takes place in late April or early May.

The subject of this evening's debate is; is; "Resolved, That the economic forces making for war are stronger under a capitalistic than under a socialistic system". Mr. Lewis will be the first speaker, but will not be hampered by having to adhere to one side of the question.

The debate will then procede with arguments of John M. Graham '38 and Paul R. Voat '38 for the negative and Robert E. Wernick '38, sole supporter of the affirmative. Following this, there will be parliamentary discussion from the floor.
