Ballons Carry Radio-Meteorograph to 6 1/4 Miles--Radio Signal Recorded But Instrument Damaged

After weeks of experiment, a strong westerly wind and five balloons pulled the newest model radio-meteorograph through a low bush and aloft from the Blue Hill Observatory Saturday afternoon.

After following the cluster of balloons for 4 1/2 minutes with a theodolite until it was obscured by low clouds and gathering darkness, the observers repaired to the radio room.

The bush encounter seemed, however, to have disabled the propeller which operates the instrument, so no interruptions due to the meteorograph were recorded.

The experiment was, however, partially successful, in that the signal was followed for an hour, when the instrument was about 6 1/4 miles above and 25 miles to the eastward of the starting point. At this point, the battery failed, because of the extremely low temperature.
