Eddie Farrell Granted Leave of Absence Because of Ill Health

Eddie Farrell, Varsity track coach, has been granted a leave of absence on full pay from Friday, December 20 until July 1, 1936, because of ill health.

Jaakko Mikkola, assistant coach, will have charge of all practice on Soldiers Field in the meantime.

William J. Bingham '16, director of Athletics, on announcing the leave, said "It is the hope of all who knew and were associated with Eddie that this leave will successfully accomplish the restoration of his health."

Farrell has been a coach of track at Harvard since 1917, filling the head coach's position since 1923. In the last four years his teams have been unusually successful, winning three out of the four Yale meets, three of the four Princeton meets, and all of the meets with Dartmouth.

12 Out of 15 H-Y Records

Men coached by him now hold 12 of the 15 Harvard-Yale track records. Since winning, in 1925, the first triangular indoor meet for six years, his teams have won ten of the 11 matches.

He attended Mechanic Arts High School, where he starred on the track team. In 1912 he was on the Olympic Team, competing in the broad jump and the hop, skip, and jump. In 1924 and 1928 he was assistant coach of the Olympic Team.
