THREE SHOOTING UNITS PRACTICE FOR MATCHES

Naval Science Rifle Team, Rifle Club, and Pistol Club Hold Competitions For Membership

With the issuance of a call for Freshman candidates, Harvard's three shooting units, the Rifle Club, the Pistol Club, and the Naval Science rifle team, were peppering the target end of their Memorial Hall range at full blast early this week, and expect to announce their respective schedules and have their teams picked by competition shortly.

The three groups have been practicing informally since the opening of college. Except for the Naval Science team, sharpshooting is to be regulated quite differently this year than in the past, with a change being made in the number of members in the Rifle Club squad, and radical differences being introduced in the method of holding pistol tournaments.

Instead of shooting off its matches separately, as it did last year, the pistol unit will run through groups of two or three meets the same evening. Except for two or three nearby challengers, results of this year's shooting will be made known through the mail.

The Rifle Club team will be reduced this year from ten to eight active participants. Although ten men will be named to the squad, two will be used to handle targets and scores, with the lowest two of each meet serving in this capacity during the following shoot.

The Pistol Club has received challenges from Ohio State and the Framingham Sportsmen's Club, and early next week will dispatch 15 challenge to colleges met by last year's team. The Framingham contest is tentatively scheduled for next Monday.
