BROOKS HOUSE ISSUES SURVEY OF WORK DONE

Reviving a policy that has been dormant for years, Phillips Brooks House has established as part of its "New Deal drive" a system of monthly checkups on all work done by the House and has just released a summary of the first of these surveys.

Greatly increased activity by nearly all departments of the House is reported in this survey, which comes as a printed statement that has just been distributed to all members of the Brooks House Cabinet and Committee.

According to this 75 men have already begun social service work in settlement houses in South Boston, the North End, Jamaica Plain, and similar areas, while 120 have indicated their intention of signing up for work in the future.

At the same time the products of last spring's text book drive have made possible the loan of 767 textbooks to 225 needy students, though Stephen Van N. Powelson '38, chairman of the Loan Library Committee, has announced that continued applications have made necessary a new drive.

Other work by the committee which provides student speakers for various occasions, by the Foreign Student Committee, and by the Law, Dental, and Medical Schools Committees is covered in the scope of this report. According to Raymond Dennett '36, president of Brooks House, monthly, meetings of the Cabinet will be held this year to add to the efficacy of the checkup system.
