RIFLE CLUB ENVISAGES INCREASED MEMBERSHIP

At the initial meeting of the Harvard University Rifle Club last night, Malcolm S. McN. Watts Jr. '37, president of the club predicted a membership of 40 to 50 men this year as against only 35 last season. Robert A. Williams '37 is secretary of the club and Parkman D. Howe Jr. '37 captain of the rifle team The coach will again be Sergeant E. W. Easterling of the Marino Corps.

In view of the large number of club members and teams of only five men, Watts has hopes of starting not only a Freshman but also a graduate student team besides the regular 1st team combination.

Outdoor practice, which begins this week, will be held at the State range at Wakefield, Mass., as long as the weather permits. Regular army caliber .30 rifles will be used on the 200 yard range. Indor shooting will be done every Tuesday and Thursday over the 50 feet range in the basement of Memorial Hall with .22 caliber rifiles during winter months.

Both indoor and outdoor matches will be held against various college and regimental teams. Last year at the intercollegiates in New Haven Harvard Finished eighth in a field of sixteen, but expects to do much better this season according to Watts. The Yale match should be of unusual interest, since last year Harvard beat the Elis by one point in the outdoor meet but lost to them in the indoor match.
