RADICAL CHANGES DUE IN LINEUP OF VARSITY

DUBIEL, KELLY, KESSLER, AND HEDBLOM MISSED BY "A"

By R.w. Paul

Radical changes in the Varsity lineup were being predicted yesterday after Dick Harlow had scrimmaged his "A" against his "B" team for the third successive time this week and had found to his consternation that the secondstringers could gain consistently against their supposed superiors.

Piloted by quarter back George Blackwood the "B" team marched through the "A" outfit for 70 yards and was stopped only on the enemy 10 yard line. Then Harlow pulled the seconds back to the 25 only to have them send Bill Watt over for a touchdown.

Previous to this drive the "A" eleven had been on the offensive for 25 minutes against these same hard-fighting seconds. The "A" men were minus tlie services of Dubiel, Kelly, Kessler, and Hedblom, a strong quartet that was greatly missed.

Moseley Scores

Despite these absences the "A" like the "B" team was able to go to town on the offensive. They closed a hard drive by sending Moseley over from the 10 yard line to score.

It was after this that Harlow gaxe the "B" outfit the ball for the remaining 20 minutes of the scrimmage. He gave them the ball on their own 20 and was considerably surprised to see them sweep through the opposition to the 15 yard line before being checked.

On this long drive Blackwood was blocking nicely to aid Watt's line plunging and the good running of the "B" half backs, Leo Ecker and Arthur Oakes.

"B" Line

In the "B" line were Bob Jones at center, Will Burton and Bob Watson as tackles, and Charlie Allen and Nat Blatchford as guards. All of them have become possible Brown game starters by their work yesterday, though Allen's chances of pushing either Jim Gaffney or Charlie Kessler out of a guard job are not strong.

After the scrimmage Harlow was asked if there weren't several changes ahead but he refused to commit himself. Nevertheless it was obvious that several men stand to lose their jobs as the result of the battle on fog-bound Soldiers Field yesterday.

One of these changes lies at right half back. George Ford was not used yesterday. It begins to look as if his old schoolboy teammate, Ecker, might beat him in the race for this job.

Line Changes?

At the tackles Bob Downes and Mike Adlis had the call on "A" team but they are going to have a hard time keeping ahead of Watson and Burton, the tackles who were scrapping so hard on "B" team yesterday.

Then, too, Sew Greeley, who was at center on "A", was pushed very hard by Bob Jones and is by no means a certain starter. He did, however, keep his place when the "A" team lined up for signals after the scrimmage.

One other lineman, Mike Adlis, was not so fortunate and was superseded at left tackle by Bill Pront. The right half back situation was further complicated by the appearance of Mac McTernan in the signal lineup for the second day. It is a matter of considerable doubt whether he or Ecker is the more likely candidate for the job.

The "A" scrimmage lineup was: Winter,l.e.; Adlis, l.t.; Gaffney, l.g.; Greeley, e.: Nee, r.g.; Downes, r.t.; Knapp, r.e.; Bilodean, q.b.; Moseley, l.h.b.; Struck, r.h.b.; Nesmith, f.b.

The "B" scrimmage lineup: Higgs, le.; Burton, l.t.; Blatchford, l.g.; Jones,e.; Allen, r.g.: Watson, r.t.; Hallett, r.e.: Blackwood, q.b.; Oakes, l.h.b.; Ecker, r.h.b.; Watt, fb
