John Jermain Slocum '36, of Charleston, South Carolina, has been appointed a member of the 1936 Album Committee, Deric Nusbaum '36, announced yesterday.
Slocum will be in charge of the editorial matter in the year book. He is president of the Advocate and has just retired as president of the Signet Society.
Need 1936 Pictures
Nusbaum also reported that the Committee is trying to complete two jobs as soon as possible. "It is essential," he said, "that all members and former members of 1936 have their pictures taken at Notman's Studio before the first of November and those from A-M should make an appointment before October 25. Only a few men have appeared and no one is mentioned in the Album who has failed to have his picture taken."
The second job concerns the lifeblanks which were given each Senior in his registration envelope. Nusbaum is anxious to receive as many as possible immediately in his room at 1-44 Winthrop House so that the task of correlating them may begin without delay.
New Plan In Operation
The Album is embarking this year on an experiment which has never been tried before. While the Committee is usually elected with the other class officers in November, the Student Council decided to hold the elections last spring so that the work could get underway more effectively.
So far every contract relating to the Album has been signed. Every member of 1936 has received his life-blank and a request for his picture. In addition, weekly meetings are held on Wednesdays to discuss the progress of the work.
Work of Members
While Nusbaum is directing the entire publication, the other four members of the Committee have been given specific duties. Ashton Emerson '36 directs the Photography. Arthur A. Ballantine, Jr. '36 is in charge of the lifeblanks. Germain G. Glidden '36 is acting as business manager and Slocum will take up the editorial end.
Nusbaum also pointed out yesterday that there is a special attraction for all subscriptions received before November 14. Each of these subscribers will receive a copy bearing his name in gold letters.
